Update (September 2026)

Vietnams carbon credit exchange completed its first full quarter of trading with reported volumes surpassing initial pilot expectations, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Early sessions focused on domestic offset credits from energy and industrial projects, with average clearing prices stabilizing in a mid-range band rather than the wide volatility seen at launch. Regulators issued a follow-on circular refining MRV requirements for facility-level emitters and set a phased pathway for expanding sectoral coverage in 2027. The exchange operator also announced technical preparations for Article 6.2 bilateral credit transfers, with exploratory talks disclosed with Singapore and Japans JCM partners, positioning Vietnam for potential cross-border linkage. Market participants cited improved registry connectivity and shortened settlement times after an August systems upgrade. While liquidity remains concentrated among a handful of state-linked utilities and large manufacturers, international developers have begun listing new pipeline projects, suggesting confidence in the markets regulatory trajectory without evident drag on industrial output growth.
